Shopify's President, Harley Finkelstein, highlighted the significant role of AI in the company's operations, stating that AI is integral to their platform. Since January, AI-driven traffic to Shopify stores has surged sevenfold, while orders resulting from AI searches increased elevenfold. A recent survey indicates that 64% of shoppers anticipate using AI during the upcoming holiday season. Shopify's technology stack, termed βcommerce for agents,β enables tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to facilitate purchases directly within conversations, aided by Shop Pay for streamlined checkout.
In Q3, Shopify's financial performance showed strong growth, with revenue rising 32% to $2.84 billion and gross merchandise volume (GMV) also climbing 32% to $92 billion. Shop Pay processed around $29 billion in GMV, reflecting a 67% increase year over year. The company reported an operating income of $343 million and net income of $264 million. Monthly recurring revenue reached $193 million, marking a solid financial position with cash and marketable securities estimated at $6 billion and no debt.
Shopify's internal tools, particularly the Sidekick assistant, are seeing increasing adoption, with over 750,000 shops using it for various tasks. Looking ahead, Shopify anticipates fourth-quarter revenue growth in the mid- to high 20 percent range year over year.
