Reddit is aiming to transform its platform into a primary search engine, capitalizing on the growing trend of users adding “reddit” to their searches for more reliable information. CEO Steve Huffman highlighted Reddit's unique position during a recent conference call, emphasizing the platform's extensive discussions and knowledge base that can't be found on traditional search engines. Currently, over 70 million users engage with Reddit's search feature weekly, and the AI-driven Q&A tool, Reddit Answers, has attracted 6 million users across twelve countries. The company plans to integrate Reddit Answers with its main search function, making the search box more prominent in the app. Huffman stated that the new design will ensure that the search feature is immediately accessible to both new and returning users. As other platforms adopt chat-based search interfaces, Reddit aims to leverage its rich archive of user-generated content to enhance the search experience. Financially, Reddit reported a strong second quarter, with revenue soaring 78% to $500 million compared to the previous year. This growth is partly due to the introduction of new advertising tools that allow marketers to use Reddit’s data for trend analysis and brand engagement.
