Cowork is now out of research preview and available on Windows as of February 10, 2026, matching macOS features like file access and multi-step tasks. Users can set global and folder-specific instructions for Claude, allowing it to adapt to preferred working styles. This feature means you can tailor how Claude interacts with you, adjusting tone or format based on your role or the specific folder's context.
In Cowork, Claude interacts with files more autonomously than in standard conversations, completing tasks like organizing downloads or drafting reports. Unlike Claude Code, which was primarily aimed at developers, Cowork is designed for a broader audience, making it easier for non-coders to leverage AI. Users have the option to queue tasks and provide feedback without waiting for Claude to finish, creating a more fluid workflow.
Safety is a key concern, as Claude can potentially execute destructive actions, like deleting files, if instructed to do so. Users need to provide clear guidance to avoid misinterpretations. There are also risks associated with "prompt injections," where external content could influence Claude's tasks. While the developers have taken steps to safeguard against these issues, users are advised to be cautious, especially when first using the tool.
The goal of this early release is to gather user feedback to improve Cowork. Subscribers can currently access it on macOS through the app, while others can join a waitlist for future access. The team plans to enhance the tool based on user experiences and is considering features like cross-device synchronization.
